UN Sustainable Development Goals + Houses into Homes

Houses into Homes is proud to contribute to the United Nations’ global effort to “eradicate poverty and hunger and improve standards of health by the year 2030.” We provide comfortable homes—something we think everyone should have—using donated beds, furniture, and other items that often would have gone to the landfill instead.

The Johnson County Chapter of United Nations Association chose Houses into Homes as one of three honorees at their 2021 Night of 1,000 Dinners event in March. The UN’s Sustainable Development Goals were the also the focus of the Nonprofit Organizational Effectiveness (NOE) II class we worked with this past semester. Our team identified 3 goals we are working toward:

Goal 1. No Poverty: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

Goal 10. Reduced Inequalities: By 2030, empower and promote the social, economic and political inclusion of all, irrespective of age, sex, disability, race, ethnicity, origin, religion or economic or other status

Goal 12. Responsible consumption and production: By 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse

We will be keeping these Sustainable Goals in mind as we do our work. One of our priorities is making usable pieces into beautiful pieces!

Thank you to Deb Dunkhase and our NOE team (Henry, Marc, and Tara) for their amazing work and a huge thank you to Green State Credit Union for their generous donation.
